Pidgin, am open-source multi-protocol Instant Messenger (IM) application named after America Online's AIM, has an interesting feature when using the IRC protocol, in that it allows to memorize chat rooms names as "buddies", without necessarily having to "/join" them every time, whereas with other conventional IRC software such as irssi or X-Chat, the way to remember such channels is to add them to your auto-join list.
